• February 19, 2008, Launch of The Collaboration Project, an independent forum of government leaders committed to leveraging collaborative technology to solve complex problems at the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA). Kip Hawley, Administrator & Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will share his experience launching IdeaFactory, an employee collaboration tool designed to tap the collective wisdom of the TSA workforce. The TSA blog (Evolution of Security) was featured in Sunday’s New York Times . We are expecting a small and thoughtfully selected group of public sector leaders for the event. Following the presentation and discussion on IdeaFactory, we are hoping to tap the collective wisdom of the audience to assist us in setting the agenda for The Collaboration Project (Lena Trudeau).

  • Whitepaper: Grid Enabled Service Infrastructure (GESI) submitted for a May conference that will be held at the AFCEA conference at GMU. The JBoss World presentation (Optimizing the Enterprise: Using JBoss, Red Hat and Virtualization Technologies Within a SOA) was presented in Orlando at JBoss World last week.  In addition, we have presented the same concepts at a previous Red Hat Government Users Conference in DC.

• Disseminated the call for MITRE participation for the upcoming conference (Greg Linden).
  • January 31, 2008, MITRE's Mashup Technical Exchange Meeting (MITRE and IBM presentations).
• Semantic Search - Faceted Search and Web 3.0 for Drupal: A group developing semantic search and RDF back-end capabilities for Drupal. This is an ensemble of modules providing comprehensive RDF functionality and interoperability for the Drupal 6.x platform. RDF is a W3C standard for modeling and sharing distributed knowledge based on a decentralized open-world assumption. Any knowledge about anything can be decomposed into triples (3-tuples) consisting of subject, predicate, and object; essentially, RDF is the lowest common denominator for exchanging data between systems. RDF Persistence Recommendations: Aduna, Intellidimension, Franz, Ontotext (also Bigdata and Mulgara) (Mills Davis).

• A new web site for the metrics package: Pilot testers speaking at last years e-Government conference said words to the effect that it caused them to redo their technology baseline and schedule (John Salasin).
• IRS has recognized the importance of Web 2.0 technologies in delivering information to taxpayers and tax professionals and is working toward a business solution. Over the past month, I've been working with a small task force to develop a business case and high-level action plan for review by IRS communication directors (Jaqi Ross and Debra Babcock).
• Migration of Energy Community from VK to Deki Wiki (in process) (Jim Disbrow).
• Proposed Department of Homeland Security Emergency Response CoP (Sukumar Dwarkanath).
• Reviewing several hundred tools lately and have come up with what we believe to be a Data Architecture Taxonomy or Reference Model for categorizing a data architecture framework. The framework is helpful for categorizing all the things you do with data and within this framework we are beginning to build the sub-categories and to categorize and classify tools (Brand K. Niemann). The categories are the following:
