On November 12th we completed the 2nd Annual SOCoP workshop and several of the presenteter's briefings are available. This supplments our work on a Reference Model for geospatial ontologies.
A very successful Terra Cognita Program was held Monday October 26 from 2-7 PM in Chantilly, VA. as part of the ISWC meeting. Papers are available from the site.

Overviw of SOCoP
The Spatial Ontology Community of Practice was officially begun in October of 2006 to:
- Foster collaboration among researchers, technologists & users of spatial knowledge representations and reasoning towards the development of spatial ontologies for use by all in the Semantic Web.
- Support open collaboration and open standards for increased interoperability of spatial data across government as well as helping to build a stong Cyberinfrastructure for the geospatial community.
- Synchronize across the entire spectrum of applicable geospatial standards (via W3C, ISO, OGC, etc.), the emerging GeoSpatial Web along with Geospatial Profile of FEA and the Geospatial LOB.
- Among other things the COP is interested in the CEGIS vision and innovative solutions defined by the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI).
2008 Events
SOCoP held a 1 day workshop on Oct. 17 at MITRE. There were about 60 people who registered for and attended this event. An agenda and most presentations are at the Workshop page.
Our last monthly meeting was Friday Sept. 19, 2008.
SOCoP sponsored and helped organize the recent Terra Cognita Workshop at ISWC’08, October 26, 2008.
